Late one night in Ohio, as the rain pattered on the roof above us in my parents’ attic, I sang my son to sleep. In that magical place somewhere before sleep, he patted my face gently and said, “Mom, you sound like you again.” Those words, the only words I had longed to hear, wrapped me in a happiness I have never before known. Honest words.
